Success with Viral Marketing

Many marketers are having trouble with viral marketing campaigns because they are not targeting the right people. Viral marketing is when video marketing campaigns spreads like a virus, by the help of viewers. But if video is being targeted to the wrong audience, the campaign will flop. If the goal is to reach an African American audience and ads are only on YouTube, marketers might not get the most out their campaign.

The best way to manage a viral marketing campaign is to strategically place videos on the proper websites and blogs. Marketers should keep in mind the age group they are trying to target. A younger audience, ages 16-24, would be more inclined to send videos to a friend than a mature audience, ages 55 and over.

Keep in mind that monitoring is key. The only way to know if the campaign is working is to track the campaign to the minor detail. At a minimum, marketers should monitor clicks, viewer comments, forwards, and websites.

Since there is a lot of internet video floating around, targeting the right audience takes a little work. But when done correctly, viral marketing can become a powerful marketing tool.
